Tolbethessar you really got the Civil War book for dirt cheap didn't you? Lol yep. It's a store where you can dump unwanted books (obviously uneducated people, naturally), and probably where some companies also unload onto their hands the surplus inventory. They pays you unbelievably terrible though (unless you wanted scrip of store credit). They do sell other things like music crap (who cares?), movies, and even some video games, but mostly books. Unfortunately they have only 3 locations and they're all in Tennessee. It's called "McKay". When I lived in NW GA (near Chattanooga) for 5 years, I used to go to the Chattanooga location once a while after I discovered it, like on my 2nd or 3rd year. This trip, I was traveling back up north via Knoxville, so my wife and I took the opportunity to go to the Knoxville location.

Moving this discussion to this thread since it's random Do you have any go-to books for ACW novices? BTW I have PK's Rise and Fall of the Great Nations(Korean version because academic books in English hurts my brain ) but the translation is pretty crappy. Is the English version too hard for a decent English speaker? (I figure you know my approximate level talking with me for two years or however long we've known) I'm inclined to read the English version when I get the time because the TL's so crappy on the Korean one, LOL. Revisiting this... I think I have found the book you have been asking for at last! The Atlas of The Civil WarBy James M. McPherson THIS TIME, buy the 영어 version! Not the 한국어 version! I've posted the pics of what the book looks like in general (in above post), and it doesn't feel like an academic book. More like... a well-balanced book that a newcomer could approach and peruse for himself, but not quite lacking in details. And it's fairly organized in chronological order (well, mainly geographically organized, but also chronological), so you can see the progress of the war through the years. And of course, theater-wide maps at the beginning (but with also little page #'s for individual battles! SUPERSCORE 초 고품질!). So I feel like it's a superb resource for anyone who wants to buy. Easily accessible and well organized. 5/5 Stars Also tagging Victor Katz 's friend: stonewalljackson . *Yes I'm using Google Translate for the Korean babblings in this post. I lay the blame at their feet, not mine. Your Korean '초 고품질' sounds like an advertisement for Xiaomi TVs LOL It ain't exactly formal language, so dunno why Google Translate would choose that wording. Interesting. 6/5 for efforts though, Tolbethessar. I will definatly check that book out. I'm slowly progressing through Paul Kennedy... I'm pretty much figuring out what Paul wanted to say through poor translation (It was translated in the 1990s, that explains some, but not all haha). I can see why it is a great book, but I don't like it much due to unfriendly translation I found a Korean online bookshop's link(Korean alert, obviously). I'll consider buying, thanks. Also I'll give your words to stonewalljackson. And tell him to login a bit more often haha.

Victor Katz , you plan to get the ACW book in English this time, right? Of course. Espescially after my failure last time haha. Not many people wants this kind of book (espescially in SK) and people would rather read about vegetarian meals or how Jimin from BTS changed his skin tone. That explains the overall poor translation of history books. Some of them have very good translations btw... Saying that as a guy who translated some youtube videos as a hobby. I don't think the ACW book even has a Korean version anyways

Make sure you do not get the atlas by National Geographic. That particular one is crap for either research purposes or introducing the reader to ACW. It was only a collection of republished ancient maps and let be honest... 19th century war maps are terrible.

Oh that shit sells for 77k won (Don't be surprised at the number, it's only $70) in South Korea. Don't worry, that books is too luxurious for me

Wait... do you have access to a local university library? What if you could find Paul Kennedy's book in English in their catalogs?

Wait... do you have access to a local university library? What if you could find Paul Kennedy's book in English in their catalogs? There's no university near where I live... The only library that's near my house is the crappy children's library where half the books are for children. I visit there sometimes because there are few decent books, but there's no Paul Kennedy in English unfortunatly. There's the Korean version of the book there, but not the English one. Sad.

It does feel strange to call something from 2005 "old" even though logically it is infact old, considering the cycles of publication has moved far past that.
